This series was made in New York City over the course of a year. In fact, on the very ground of the city. I shot most of the images outside, on the asphalt of a school playground, on huge steel plates covering road work, or on an outdoor summer stage. All of these surfaces are rough, scratched, grazed and timeworn, in a way the scars of the city. The palette of colors became darker.

This work was shown at Soho Photo Gallery in New York in October 2007.
